Here I post the English translation of my research dedicated to the combat operations in Belarus during the summer of 1941. This study was first published in 2006, with a thoroughly revised edition appearing in 2011. Finally, in 2024, I had the opportunity to update and expand the text, publishing a new Chapter 6 devoted to the events of summer 1941 on the northern flank of the Soviet Western Front.
Each chapter of the original Russian-language text consists of two unequal parts.
The larger part is the CHRESTOMATHY: a day-by-day narrative of events on individual (in some sense independent) sectors of the front. Often, this is a compilation (bringing together in strict chronological order) of mostly already known data.
The Chrestomathy abounds in details - unit numbers, commanders' names - and is difficult to absorb for the unprepared reader.
In case of difficulty, the reader can immediately turn to the second part - the "CRITIQUE" (the text following the five asterisks). However, in doing so, the reader may skip over the justification for opinions that might seem controversial or elicit immediate rejection ("resistance").
In the English version, the characteristic Chrestomathy details, superfluous for English-speaking readers, are omitted. Presented here almost in full is only the "Critique", where I discuss the logic of events and pose questions important for historians.
If the presented text raises doubts, one can always refer to the complete translation of my research, which will, however, have to be undertaken independently.
